Teaching

Nigel Potts is highly sought-after as a private teacher of organ, piano, theory and musicianship. He has prepared high school seniors for College/Conservatorium auditions and taught organ as a secondary instrument to graduate students at Yale University. Nigel's teaching experience includes all age groups and ability levels, from young beginners through to a retired New York school superintendent and an Italian Concert Pianist.

His teaching career began at the Darwin School of Music in Lancashire, England in 1992, and since Nigel's teaching posts have since included: Adjunct Lecturer in Music at Dowling College, New York, (where he taught several courses such as, Music in Western Civilization, Survey of Symphony, Survey of Instrumental Literature, and Beethoven), and as a member of the music staff of the Saint Thomas Choir School in New York City.

Nigel has adjudicated Organ Scholarships Competitions for the American Guild of Organists, the Tawain National Organ Competition and as a National Examiner for the Royal School of Church Music, America.

Nigel Potts has presented master-classes & workshops on general organ literature, hymn playing, transcriptions, and on 'British organ music of the 19th & 20th Centuries' for the American Guild of Organists (including the 2010 National Convention in Washington DC), the Royal Canadian College of Organists, as well as in Singapore, Hong Kong, Taipei and the Bahamas.
